Happy Thanksgiving!

This Thanksgiving, I have been thinking a lot about gratitude, and the effect it has had on my life. I had a 7 Things I Am Grateful series going on for a while on this blog, and I have really enjoyed it. Taking the time each week to think about how I had been blessed that week was really uplifting.

I came across this quote, and it really touched me. I struggle with anxiety, and some days are harder than others. And while treating anxiety takes more than wishful thinking, thinking positively is a huge part of it. I think it is so true that when I focus on what I have been given, I am able to see the world in a better light. And when I am grateful, I feel secure. I feel peaceful. I feel safe. So I can see how gratitude can help banish fear and help me to see the abundance all around me.

I hope you have a happy, safe and warm Thanksgiving!

7 Things I Am Grateful For

1.   Pearl Earrings –This week, Ben found something for me –the matching earring to my pearl set! These earrings mean a lot to me, as Ben bought them for me on our 6 month anniversary. I thought that one of the earrings had been lost in the midst of our move to Texas, but thankfully, this wasn’t the case! It’s just so amazing to have these little beauties back in my life. 🙂

2.   Red Lobster –I have wanted to go to Red Lobster for as long as I can remember (I just love seafood!), and I finally got the chance! Ben and I went on a date there yesterday, and I had a fantastic time! We both ordered the 4 Course Feasts for $15.99 each. I got lemon wood-grilled tilapia, and clam chowder, and a salad, and cheesecake. And the cheddar biscuits were delicious! It was so much fun, and the atmosphere was really soothing. I hope to go again sometime!

3.   Disc Golfing –We also went disc golfing yesterday, with Ben’s coworker, Jordan. We went to an 18 course up in Conroe, and it was lots of fun! I’m getting better at my throws. 🙂 While I’m doing a pretty good job at my accuracy, my throw isn’t super far. It is definitely improving though!

4.   Leopard Print Purse –So I switched from my black bag with the zebra print ribbon back to my leopard print purse. I love this bag –again, it was a gift from Ben. It is cute, and has a slouchy boho feel to it. And since it’s brown and black, it goes with just about everything in my wardrobe!

5.   Books –I love reading so much. I finished Allegiant by Veronica Roth this past week, and it was so good! I thought the ending was beautiful, in its own way. I’ve also been reading a lot of other stories lately, and it has been wonderful. There’s something amazing in writing –how it can transport you into another world, and change the way you think about things. I really hope to publish a book of my own someday. I’m still in the process of revising Cry of the Amazon, and I have started a fashion mystery novel, whose name is still to be determined.

6.   Lipstick –I think lipstick is one of the most awesome things in this universe. I think it is so much fun to decide what lipstick I want to wear for the day, and it’s fun to see all of the different makeup looks and moods you can create with lipstick. A neon orange gives a way different feel than a dark berry, or a classic red. Today I wore my persimmon, or reddish-orange lipstick. I did blot it down, though, so it wasn’t too strong of a color. 🙂

7.   Red Heels –I love my red heels. They are about two inches high, and super comfortable! The classic design means I can wear them in any season, and the shiny red material makes them eye-catching. I especially like that I was able to get these shoes that retailed at Kohl’s for about $30 – for only $4 at the thrift store! I always love a bargain!

7 Things I’m Grateful For

This week was so much fun, and I can’t wait to share seven of the thousands of blessings I received this week! Going to Linda’s wedding and spending time with family was exactly what I needed! Although I have lots to be thankful for every week, this week in particular has showered down blessings. 🙂

1.   Linda’s Wedding –I have been looking forward to this wedding all summer, and it did not disappoint! The wedding sealing was so sweet and touching. The reception and open house were a lot of fun as well. The decorations were stunning, and it was great helping to set up. And all of the cheesecake was delicious! Plus, it was really nice to see Ben’s family. 🙂

2.   NYX Round Lipstick –I decided to buy a neon pink lipstick from the NYX line last week. And I love it! The formula is so creamy, and stays on a really long time. I also like that if I brought, it can look pretty natural, and conversely, it can give me a really bold look. I don’t remember the exact name (it was a number), but it was $4 at HEB. It was a lot of fun wearing this week during all of the wedding fun.

3.   Kayaking –Yesterday, I was able to go kayaking with Katie, one of my awesome sisters-in-law. It was so peaceful out on the ocean, dipping my oar into the water, and looking out at the spacious ocean. The sky was a clear blue, and the temperature perfect. I believe that if you surround yourself with beauty, that it will begin to rub off on your soul. I know this was one of those moments that will stay with me forever. 🙂

4.   The Ocean –Along those lines, I really enjoyed going to the Carpinteria beach. It was simply glorious! The old belief that the ocean is a form of medicine totally rings true to me. There’s nothing like experiences that indulge all five senses. I love the taste of salt water on my tongue, the brisk water rushing against my skin, the smell of seaweed and sunscreen, the sound of the crashing waves, and the sight of beautiful sand meeting beautiful water. It was so much fun, and I was able to really let go and enjoy myself. 🙂

5.   Blue Maxi Dress -So, my awesome idea for a modest dress to Linda’s wedding kind of failed. It worked fine until the wind blew, or I sat down…. But thankfully, Patty, my awesome mom-in-law came to the rescue and brought me a blue maxi-dress that I could wear. It was pretty, the right color, really comfy, and completely modest. Yay! As for the other dress, I’ll probably sew on another layer of ribbon. 🙂

6.   Crocheting –While here in California, I felt the urge to crochet again. And as Patty has loads of yarn in the attic, I decided to pull some out and start playing with it! Katie showed me how to do the wavy stitch that she’s really good at. I’m determining if I want to make a hat, scarf, or blanket with it. I guess we’ll see… 🙂

7.   BBQ Sandwiches –I love the taste of pulled pork sandwiches –it’s a little taste of Virginia. And we had some on the night before Linda’s wedding! There’s nothing like a barbeque sandwich to brighten my day! The recipe used was really simple –just pulled pork and barbeque sauce. So delicious. 🙂

7 Things I’m Grateful For

Phew, life has been crazy! But, here’s my latest addition to my grateful series!  I tried to include as much fashion and beauty as I could. I hope you like it!

1. Black Dress Pants –I had an interview at Macy’s, and didn’t think I had anything to wear. But, I decided to try on my size 10 pants (which I haven’t been able to fit into in a while), and they fit! They became part of a cute outfit that I personally think helped me in my interview.

2. Swimming Pool –Right now, we are staying with Ben’s cousins Stephanie and Daniel (who are super awesome, by the way). They have a pool in the backyard, and I have really enjoyed going for a swim whenever I get the chance. There’s just something magical about swimming in the water. It’s fun, delightful, and relaxing all at the same time.

3. Cheesecake –For my birthday, Ben and I went to the Cheesecake Factory on Friday. The food was delicious! I had the Bistro Shrimp Pasta, and Ben got a burger. The cheesecake though –just amazing! I got the Tuxedo Cheesecake, which has chocolate fudge cake on the bottom, chocolate cheesecake, and chocolate flecked mascarpone mousse. It was just amazing! Plus, for my birthday, my plate was decorated and the waiting staff sang to me. All in all, a great birthday celebration.

4. Coppertone Sport Spray Sunscreen in SPF 50 –I’ve been getting a lot more sun here in Houston, and I am so grateful for a spray sunscreen that I bought. My skin is super delicate and burns easily, and this stuff helps stave away the sunburns! I like the spray formula –it’s much better than rubbing greasy lotion into my skin. So far, I give it a 5 out of 5!

5. Clinique Super Balanced Foundation in (01) PetalI love this foundation. I’m pretty sure that I’ve already said twice that I’m grateful for it –but this foundation just keeps on giving. My skin looks clear, even and beautiful with it. 🙂

6. Oversized Sunglasses –I love this cute $10 oversized sunglasses that I bought at Kroger. They have 100% UV protection, and help my light-sensitive eyes be able to handle the sun. Plus, they look so fun and glamorous!

7. Red Pumps –Another part of my interview outfit was my favorite pair of red pumps. These high heels are cute and comfortable, and take any outfit up a notch. I love them and will probably wear them to death before I part with them!

That’s it for this week’s installment of 7 Things I’m Grateful For! TTFN!

7 Things I’m Grateful For

It’s time again for my 7 Things I’m Grateful for post. This past week has been an interesting one, and I’m excited to see what the upcoming week has to offer. But, without further ado, here’s my list of things I’m grateful for!

1.   The Cream Styling Conditioner by Paul Mitchell –I love this styling cream. It’s a wonderful quick fix for when I know I won’t have lots of time to spend on my hair. Last night, I knew we would have a quick morning. So, when I took my bath last night, I brushed my hair and ran some of The Cream into my wet hair, pulled it back in a ponytail, and went to sleep. When I woke up, I had nice, soft waves devoid of frizz. So, I was able to get ready for church, and still get there in a timely manner. This stuff is amazing. 🙂

2.   Sparkly Blue Cardigan –I have a cropped cardigan that I found at Ross (and was a wonderful gift from my mom-in-law Patty), which I really adore. It goes with so many things, and it really adds that special touch to an outfit. It’s a dark blue, but still bluer than navy, and it has sparkles in it, which I really like. I wore it to church today with a brown wonder tee underneath, and my brown A-line skirt. Right now, I’m wearing my cardigan and wonder tee with a pair of jeans. I still feel beautiful and classy, and this cardigan works extra hard to keep me and my wardrobe happy. 🙂

3.   Desk Organizer –One of the things in life that stresses me out are messy drawers, especially messy desk drawers. I got this cute little desk organizer that holds my pens, scissors, etc., and now my desk draw isn’t messy anymore. 🙂 It’s not like the one in the picture; instead it’s black, made out of metal, and has lots of little compartments. Here’s to little steps towards spring cleaning!

4.   Greek Yogurt –One of the times I visited my sister Carrie, she introduced me to Greek yogurt. I loved it so much that I had to buy some for myself! I enjoy it with canned or fresh fruit, and some sugar/stevia mix, as I bought the plain version. It’s delicious, has more protein than regular yogurt, and less sugar. And did I mention it’s thick and creamy, almost like soft serve? Yum. 🙂 I think Greek yogurt is a great healthy addition to my life.

5.   Elf Studio Blush in Merry Berry –I am an Elf girl, and one of my all-time favorites is the studio blush. It costs only $3, and with the right foundation, it stays put all day. The Merry Berry color is a deeper mauve-ish berry, which I like a lot. I have had it for a little over a year, and I’m getting close to finishing it up (which I never do with cosmetics!) I can definitely say I’m grateful for this little beauty gem.

6.   My Health –I’ve been working on my healthy challenge this week, and it’s been a good experience (which you can read my post, Working Towards Health and Inner Beauty, to learn more.) As I’ve have done so, I’ve realized how blessed I am. I’m not sick, and I have use of all my limbs. I get enough sleep, and I feel, in general, pretty good when it comes to my body. Although I’m not where I want to be weight wise, I’m making positive changes. I’m starting to remember that health is so much more than a number on a scale. And really, I am so blessed to have a body in the first place.

7.   Leopard Print Purse –I have a cute purse that Ben bought for me at the beginning of our marriage. Two years later, it’s still in great condition, and I use it all the time. While I still go back and forth between this leopard print purse, and a purple metallic one, it’s definitely a great addition to my outfits. I love how my purse is classy, and wild at the same time. It makes me giddy inside just to walk out the door with it!
And that, my friends, is the end of my grateful for post. I hope you enjoyed it!

7 Things I’m Grateful For

With the holiday crazies finally over, I can get back to blogging! And, what better way to start the new year, than my tenth grateful post? Here are the 7 things I am grateful for this week:

1. Japanese Bento Supplies -Lately, I have been intrigued by the concept of packing a Japanese lunch box. While there are endless varieties, the main point is to pack an economical, healthy and tasty lunch box. For Christmas, I received a recipe book for several types of food to go in my bento (from my awesome sister Carrie). I also received some flower shaped vegetable cutters, and several rice-ball molders (from my in-laws). I am super excited to use them, and make my first Japanese bento ever! If it turns out cute enough, I just might post about it!

2. The New Year -I am so thankful for a New Year. Every January, I am filled with renewed hope and ambition. I’m excited to see what this year has in store, and what I will accomplish. Last year, I completed my bachelor’s degree, wrote a novel, and started this blog, which has received over 2100 views! Hopefully, I will have some fun adventures, and accomplish more of my goals. Good luck to all of you on your New Year’s Resolutions!

3. Simulated Sapphire Jewelry -For my big present from my parents, I received a beautiful set of earrings and a necklace, with simulated diamonds and sapphires. They are beautiful, in fact, much more beautiful than the picture shown above.  I will write a post about them in the next couple of weeks, depending on when I can get my left ear re-pierced (it has a tendency to close up).

4. Green and Gold Scarf -I also received a beautiful green and gold scarf for Christmas (from my parents), and I adore it. It is also much prettier than the picture above, as I couldn’t find the exact scarf on polyvore. It’s warm, colorful, and it looks great on me. I feel so blessed and grateful for the gifts I received this year. I will also post about this scarf, sometime this week.

5. Fuzzy Socks- I received lots of fuzzy, comfy, colorful socks from various people this Christmas. I love warm socks, and I love colorful socks. Living in blustery Rexburg, these socks are great for cuddling up with a cup of herbal tea and a fun movie.

6. Blue Pumps -Yes, I was spoiled this Christmas. I was given a beautiful blue pair of closed-toe high heels, and I adore them. They are really comfortable -more so than some of my ballet flats, which I am super thankful for. I love heels, but with the ice, snow, and super huge hill that I live on, I tend to forgo my lovely heels for something more comfortable. But with these new heels, that’s about to change!

7. Face Powder -So, I have the perfect foundation from Clinique, which I blogged about previously. My only complaint is that it doesn’t last super long. But, with a simple face powder from NYC that my sister Jennifer gave me, my foundation stays perfect all day long! I’m super grateful for this addition to my makeup collection. I’m sure I’ll blog about this beauty find as well.

I wish you all a happy New Year, and can’t wait to share more of my beauty, fashion, and wellness adventures here on my blog!

7 Things I’m Grateful For

1. Over-Sized T-Shirts -I love big, comfy t-shirts that I can lounge around in. They are fun, comfortable, and all-around just amazing. And if you you match it with the right jeans and accessories, you can still look great.
2. Moleskine Notebooks -Ben and I went to an information session for one of the companies he is hoping get a construction internship. One of them gave away moleskine notebooks and flash drives with the company name on them. I love moleskin notebooks. They are pretty expensive at Barnes and Noble, and for good reason. It’s a fun, well-crafted notebook that you can take anywhere. I’ve already started using mine for random creative ideas that pop into my brain.
3. Wheat Bread –I love bread, and I especially love wheat bread. Why? Because it tastes good, and it has plenty of fiber and nutrients that my body needs.
4. Veggie Trays -At the last Relief Society activity, I was glad to see fruit trays and veggie trays. One of my biggest problems about church and other social activities, is that they tend to be filled with lots of junk food, which I certainly don’t need. While there were still chips and oreos, I had the option of still eating healthy, while enjoying time with others.
5. Sunscreen -Even though I live in Idaho, and winter is fast approaching, I am grateful for sunscreen. I don’t know what it is about the snow, but I can still manage to come home with a sunburned face. And since I will be spending the next two weeks in California, I will definitely be bringing my sunscreen with me.
6. Chocolate Brown -I love the color of chocolate -it warm, welcoming, and rich-looking. I have a lot of clothing in chocolate brown, which I am excited to wear next year. I also like this layering tee. Here in Idaho, layering tees are a winter must-have.
7. Red Lipstick -Red lipstick is just so bold and classy -wearing it really makes my day. I can’t think of another shade of lipstick that is as versatile, and well, down right amazing, as red lipstick. Just a couple of coats, I feel like Super Woman. 🙂

7 Things I’m Grateful For

It’s that time again! Here’s my 7 things I am grateful for this week. 🙂
1. NaNoWriMo -In case you don’t know, NaNoWriMo stands form National Novel Writing Month. Every November, this awesome event takes place, give writers a chance to bond together in a common goal -writing a novel! I’m super excited, and I’m going to return to my abandoned novel, Cry of the Amazon. I already have 20k written, but to keep within the contest rules, I will write another 50k words, which will bring my novel to 70,000 words. This is going to be a great opportunity for me, and I intend to take full advantage of it.
2. Baklava -I love baklava! It’s my favorite holiday dessert, and I was able to enjoy a piece (or two) of it yesterday. My friend and sister-in-law, Lizzy, had a 6 course Turkish meal for her international foods class. It was a lot of fun, and the food was great. 🙂
3. Advil -So, I have been struggling with a lot of headaches lately, and let me tell you, I am so grateful for modern medicine. Advil helps keep my headaches at bay, and helps preserve my sanity.
4. Cute Glasses -I love glasses, and I think they are a fun fashion accessory. I’m especially grateful for my blue-framed, glasses, which I got from Zenni Optical, for only $12! Without them, I have a hard time recognizing faces, which is a bummer. I’m not skipping glasses at church today!
5. Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover -I did write a review on this makeup remover earlier in the week, but I wanted to mention it again. My eyes are so sensitive, and just about everything I’ve tried sends me eyes straight to red and puffy land. But, this makeup remover does not! So, right now, I’m very grateful for my non-red eyes.
6. Friends -This week, I have been reminded time and time again about how much my friends care about me, and are willing to lend a hand. From dyeing my hair, to helping with stress meltdowns, to just listening, my friends have been there for me. Thank you so much, everyone!
7. Herbal Tea -Speaking of stress meltdowns, last night I was so stressed that all of the muscles in my body were tensed and throbbing. My friend Jessica and her husband were there at the rescue, with essential oils and a magnesium drink. The magnesium went into a cup of herbal lemon tea, and it helped a lot. Plus, I just love herbal tea in general. It’s very soothing and wonderful, and helps me to feel pampered.

7 Things I’m Grateful For

grateful6 -1
So, this is my latest “7 Things I Am Grateful For” list. This week, I was able to have lots of fun adventures, including two hiking trips, and a thrift store raid. So, without further ado, here’s the list you’ve been waiting for!

1.   Grape Nuts –I love Grape Nuts! It’s a healthy, filling cereal that helps me start out my day on the right foot. Granted, it needs a spoonful of sugar with it, but that’s okay. As long as I don’t overdose on the sugar, I always feel good in the hours that follow eating this awesome breakfast.

2.   Autumn Leaves –On Wednesday and yesterday, I was able to go hiking to two different spots. First, we hiked in Herbert, an old ghost town in the middle of a forest, and surrounded by fields. It was a lot of fun! We also went hiking at Cress Creek, which was a fun hike, more designed for families and small children. In both places, the autumn leaves were beautiful. There were more yellow leaves than a variety, but it was still very beautiful. Here are some pictures.

This picture was taken in Herbert.
This was taken in Cress Creek.

3.   Green Sweater –As I mentioned above, I also went on a Thrift Store raid on Friday. I went to one down in Idaho Falls that supports a homeless shelter. Anyway, it has a fun $5 dollar bag deal. I was able to stuff a full sized winter coat worthy of Rexburg, an over coat, and three sweaters. The green sweater and purple “teacher sweater” fit great (as well as the coats), but the teal one did not. So, I gave it to one of my friends, Kara. All in all, I think that’s pretty good for five bucks!

Here’s my green sweater! This picture was at Cress Creek by my dear friend and sister-in-law, Lizzie.

4.   Harry Potter –While growing up, the Harry Potter books were a great strength to me. While I was blessed with a loving, living family (unlike Harry), I went through a lot of hardships, and these books really helped me to persevere, and gave me many needed sessions of laughter and tears. While they definitely do not replace my faith, they were a great blessing to me.

5.   Finishing Spray –So, through a friend, I was able to get a deal on Paul Mitchell products, including my favorite finishing spray. I love these products, as they help keep my hair in place. And since I got them yesterday, it’s just in time for church!

6.   Box Spring –So, I’ve been sleeping on just a mattress, and didn’t realize how much it was affecting my sleep, until a kind neighbor gave Ben and me their old box spring and bed frame (they recently bought a new one). Now, I’m sleeping a lot better, which is nice.

7.   My Family –I have been thinking about my family a lot this week. I feel so blessed to have such wonderful people related to me, and I love them so much. Is my family perfect? No. Is my family a little quirky? Yes. But that’s part of why I love them. It can be easy to let things get in the way, but I think it’s important to make time for family.

7 Things I’m Grateful For

It’s that time again! Here is my weekly installment of my seven things that I am thankful for. This week, I am grateful for the following:

1.    Glitter –I think glitter is so much fun. Whether it is in nail polish or blush, or coating heels and t-shirts, I love it. I think glitter is a fun way to add glamour, shine, and fun to any look.

2.     Laughter –I’ve been feeling down some this week, and every time, laughter has managed to get me back up. I had a lot of fun laughing with Ben today. And I love this quote about laughter –it really is a beautiful, precious part of life.

3.     Red Curry –I love Thai food, and red curry has to be my favorite Thai dish. I think it’s cool that just about every culture has developed their own version of curry. Did you know that Japan has their own curry? I didn’t! I learned that this week when I was working on some articles for Fiverr. But yeah, curry is amazing.

4.     Mascara –I love mascara, especially since my eyelashes are strawberry blond. I have looked high and low, and finally found a mascara that coats my lashes from tip to root. It’s e.l.f.’s Studio Lengthening and Volumizing Mascara in black. You can check out my previous review on it here.

5.     Ticket To Ride –I love this fun game! You build your own train route, which involves strategy, and a bit of luck. While the one shown is for Europe, the one I’m used to playing is the original, with a map of the USA. It’s lots of fun, and I definitely recommend it. Ben and I played with, along with his brother Sam and wife Lizzy.

6.     Sweatshirts/Hoodies –Now that it’s getting chilly, I’m pulling out my reliable hoodies. They are comfortable, keep me warm, and double as exercise wear. And yes, the one shown is a turquoise. And yes, I am in love with the various shades of turquoise and teal. You will see more of this color in posts to come.

7.     Bobby Pins – I love bobby pins! They help keep my crazy, unmanageable hair up when I want to do my hair in a bun or pony tail. I’m especially grateful for the ones made for redheads and gals with auburn hair. It’s great that in addition to the traditional black bobby pins, they have ones for blond hair, brown hair, and red hair. (And now, lots of other colors, such as neon, bobby pins are available). You can buy my favorite bobby pins at Sally Beauty Supply –I buy the “bronze” kind.
