A Little About Me

It’s been a while since I have done an introduction post! My name is Dana Maye, and I write about all things beauty on my blog. I occasionally write about fashion and crystals too.

Intro To Me Beauty Tastes

—My favorite makeup products are lipstick and highlighters.

—I love face masks -the clay and sleeping kind. I’m not a big fan of sheet masks. They never seem to stick to my face.

— I adore perfume and am still searching for the one. Right now I am wearing Champagne Honey & Apple by Bath and Body Works. I want to find something more unique, though. The search continues…

Intro To Me about me personally

—I’ve been married to my husband Ben for 8 years. We live in North Dakota and recently brought home our Vizsla puppy, Copper.

—I’m part of a Star Wars Cosplay Club with Ben. We do charity work and go to comicons.

—I’m Christian and feel grateful to have a Savior who lived and died for me, and who loves me eternally.

—I’m an ISFP, a type 4 enneagram and a Taurus.

Intro To Me Randomness

— My favorite colors are green and turquoise.

— I love the ocean, trees and mountains.

— I adore sushi, mangoes and chocolate/peanut butter.

— I like thunderstorms and rainy days.

So, welcome to my blog! I hope you stay for a bit and check out some of my posts.

My Blog’s Focus

Isn’t this a pretty picture? I took it on July 4th, 2014 while I was on a bike ride with my Ben. 🙂

So, I’m doing a 7 Day Blog Challenge that can be found on alexbeadon.com. This challenge looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun! I was asked to answer 5 basic questions, so here they are along with my answers:

Who Am I?

Well, I’m Dana Maye Buchmiller, and my maiden name is Gooss. I’m a graduate of BYU-Idaho, and I’m a writer. (I’m currently editing a novel about a world ruled by Amazonian women.) I love makeup and fashion, but I also love math. I have a thing for crimes shows and gourmet chocolate. As for my personality, I’m a bit of a gypsy, and I can be eclectic. I love culture and new experiences, and I have a lot of wanderlust built up in my bones. 🙂

Why Did I Start Blogging?

I originally started blogging because I wanted a way to reach out and connect to others, and to talk about my love for makeup and fashion. Since then, my blog has evolved to include other topics I am passionate about. These include continuing education (such as math and geology), natural health, weight loss, self-esteem, and mental health. I enjoy being able to speak my opinion on a number of topics.

Who Is My Blog For?

My blog is predominately for women, of all ages. I would love my blog to become a fun stop for stressed out women to find cheer and comfort. I’d also like my blog to be a resource for issues such as self-esteem and empowerment. I’m still working out the kinks in making sure my subjects flow together well.

What Is Something I Am Proud Of?

Well, I’ve lost over 35 pounds recently, which was a great success. I have been able to maintain this weight for the past 2 months. I am proud of how I handled this weight loss journey as well. I started from a place of self-kindness, and focused on improving health and self-esteem, rather than my typical path of self-abuse. I feel like I have a much better relationship with myself, and because of this, I am able to reach out to others better. So often outside influences can attempt to make us feel less than we are, especially when it comes to self-image. But I really think weight loss is most effective and permanent when we come to it with a healthy mindset. At least that is what I have experienced for myself. I guess I’m even more proud of learning to love myself than I am of the actual weight loss. 🙂

What Is The One Message I Would Like Viewers To Get From My Blog?

I want so badly to help each person who visits my blog to understand how important they are. I firmly believe each of us is filled with limitless potential and divinity. I think we have so much potential, and so much innate value. I know everyone goes through their own ups and downs, but I hope that sharing my journey will bring comfort to someone out there.

And yeah. That’s the end of today’s challenge. 🙂 Stay tuned until tomorrow!

My Favorite Things

Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
– Sound of Music

I know when I researching an author, I’m always interested in what their “favorite things” are. So, I decided to share my favorites with you.

1. Favorite Number: 2 -for Ben and me

2. Favorite Colors: These change about every six months, but right now they are royal blue, teal and golden yellow.

3. Favorite Day: Definitely Saturday –I love to play.

4. Favorite Month: May, because that’s when I was born and when the weather is most beautiful in Virginia.

5. Favorite Song: Hanging By A Moment by Lifehouse

6. Favorite Drink: Water! I love water so much. It is quenching, clear, and doesn’t leave a nasty aftertaste in my mouth. Plus, it’s good for my body and doesn’t ruin my teeth.

7. Favorite Candy: I love anything with chocolate, caramel and nuts. I also love Reese’s.

8. Favorite Ice-cream : Either cookies ‘n cream or chocolate chip cookie dough

9. Favorite Season: My favorite season would be sprummer, when it’s not scorching, but has the splendor of summer green.

10. Favorite Animal: it used to be cats, but then my cat decided to maul me, so I now have decided puppies are my favorite animal. 😉

11. Favorite Fruit: Such a hard decision… probably mangoes…. Or grapes… or pomegranates… or tangerines… or watermelon… basically whatever fruit I am eating is my favorite fruit. Fruit is definitely my favorite food.

12. Favorite Word: cherished

13. Favorite Place: Sandy Beach (near Virginia Beach –It’s much less crowded, messy, and is a lot prettier. But it’s out of the way so most people don’t go to it).

14. Favorite Subject: Anything in the humanities; art, music, English, foreign language, you name it

15. Favorite type of shoe: well, aside from barefoot it would be sneakers or sandals

16. Favorite Board game: Candyland! I loved playing it as a little girl (and still do). I also love the game Ticket to Ride.

17. Favorite part of a house: The porch, especially if it faces either the west/east and has a porch swing!

18. Favorite Movie Genre: Hmm… action if it’s not too violent, or movies based on a book I like

19. Favorite Poem: Tears, Idle Tears by Lord Alfred Tennyson

20. Favorite Flower: Definitely carnations! Despite what anyone else says, they are the most beautiful flowers in the world. They’re delicate, strong and enduring all at the same time. I love their smell and every time I walk past them in the grocery store I have to stop, stare, and smell them.

21. Favorite Perfume: I wear a lot of different perfumes, but my favorite is Warm Cashmere by Bath and Body Works.

22. Favorite Cologne: Wow, I love cologne. I’m really not picky, but if I would have to choose one, it would be Old Spice.

23. Favorite Card Game: Spades, though it’s hard to find someone to play with me… any takers? 😉

24. Favorite Tree: I would love it if Rexburg had more than four trees… at this point any real tree is my favorite tree; but, back in Virginia, my favorite would definitely be the dogwood tree. It’s beautiful, majestic and the state tree!

25. Favorite Time Of Day: My favorite time of day would either early in the morning when the house is still quiet and everyone is asleep, or right around sunset, when the sky is beautiful and I have a nice full stomach. 🙂

A Little About Moi

I figured an introduction would be interesting.

I was born on May 2, 1988, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (during my dad’s residency).  Although I moved around a lot, I claim Virginia as my home. I am the oldest of six children, and my parents are still happily married. My parents currently live in Yakima, Washington.

I recently graduated from Brigham Young University -Idaho, with my B.S. in University Studies. Rexburg, Idaho is a fun place to live, if you don’t count the cold. Winters are brutal, but the summers make up the difference. Moving to Las Vegas has been quite the shock. I went from “warm” 40-50 degree weather to 90 degrees, and it’s only May! But, that’s okay, because my apartment has air conditioning, and the complex has a pool. 🙂

Before marrying Ben, my maiden name was Dana Gooss. My two year anniversary is coming up on July 29th -Ben and I were married in 2011, in the Los Angeles LDS temple. Ben and I are in Las Vegas for Ben’s internship. Ben is a Construction Management major, and he is currently interning for South West Gas. So far, Las Vegas has been lots of fun. Right now is the ideal time for me to be a writer. I have the time, and can afford to be a full time writer, which I am excited about. I am determining whether or not to take on a part time job -we shall see.

Some interesting things about me: I am left handed, and am a natural redhead. I love sushi, alfredo, gouda,  spinach wraps, and anything with coconut. I’m into health foods and alternative medicine, and I do my best to reuse and recycle where I can. I am into yoga, essential oils, couponing, making my own cleaning supplies, singing, writing, and running. I am a big Jane Austen fan and own all of her books. I am currently working on building up my collection of Jane Austen movies. One of my biggest dreams is to earn enough money to buy a house outright -and buy one with a yard big enough for a large garden and chickens. I am LDS, and I love my religion. I find my faith to be a great motivator in my life.  And, as I mentioned in the previous post, I plan to have my first novella published on Amazon by the end of the summer!
